Cyrillic fonts don't show properly in Creative Cloud or programs

The "Cyrillic" fonts offered in Creative Cloud appear as various sans serif Latin fonts in the CC font browser and/or InDesign and Photoshop. How does one access the Cyrillic characters?

(On reflection, you probably can't use those old fonts today; they are probably type 1 fonts, which Photoshop no longer uses, and InDesign will stop very soon). You can however use them if they are TrueType.

Do you have a Cyrillic keyboard? Are you expecting to get Cyrillic characters when you type Roman (English) letters just by choosing the font?

Well, yes, since it used to work when I simply activated a Cyrillic font using Extensis' Suitcase program. Is the failure of Cyrillic fonts to appear, even those included in Creative Cloud, an "improvement"?

The battle between fonts that "put other alphabets when you type English letter" and "fonts that use Unicode" was fought and won, over 20 years ago. No modern fonts are the first type. This isn't a difference between Suitcase and Adobe Fonts but the fonts themselves. If you still have those old fonts you can still use them. Otherwise you need to learn how to use Unicode fonts like everyone else... yes it is not so convenient. But it does allow fonts to include the English alphabet, Cyrillic alphabet, and many more all together. If you'd like pointers on how to do this, please say whether you're on Windows or Mac, since it's a system function.

Attached are screen captures showing the Cyrillic fonts in Creative Cloud. I have the most updated versions of Creative Cloud, InDesign, and Photoshop. The problem persists. I wouldn't mind so much if Adobe weren't unfairly abandoning support for so many fonts, as I have Cyrillic fonts made by other foundries that work.

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear about your difficulties. Would you mind telling us the version of the Creative Cloud Desktop app you're using? Since when have you been seeing this issue? How does the font shown in Creative Cloud or other Adobe apps? Make sure you're using the updated version of the Creative cloud Application.

Please check this article and try the steps mentioned in it:- https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/troubleshoot-font-activation.html

Let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Tarun

No, that does not help. The fonts still appear as simple sans serif in Creative Cloud, and do not appear at all in Indesign's character menu when I've activated them.
