Hey!
I currently work on a game and found a really good Font. However, I don´t know if I can use it or not. I want to use the fonts for the UI. They should only appear as buttons (I would use them as Vectorgraphics made in Illustrator) .

I already read the FAQ, but I didnt quite understand how those rules are with desktop games

This is a very useful discussion for indie developers and designers working on commercial games. Font licensing is something many beginners overlook at first, especially when creating UI elements, menus, and in-game graphics. A lot of people assume that if a font is installed on their computer, it can automatically be used in commercial projects, but licensing terms can be very different depending on the font provider.

The explanation about using vector graphics and static text elements in games makes the topic much easier to understand. It’s also interesting how game development now involves not only coding and design, but legal considerations like font usage, asset licensing, and distribution rights. Discussions like this help developers avoid future problems before publishing their games commercially.

Very informative thread for anyone working on game UI or branding design.

Yeah, it mostly depends on the font license 👍 Some fonts allow use in game UI, others need a commercial/app license. Converting to vector doesn’t always make it safe, so always double-check the terms.

If you’re still unsure, you can try looking for fonts that are clearly marked for commercial use — I found some good ones while browsing fontes para  instagram

Even if you use the font as UI buttons or vectors, it still counts as commercial use if your game is monetized. So make sure the font license allows it (especially for apps/games).

If you're not sure, you can check alternatives on tipos de  letras and pick a safer option

If the lettering in the UI buttons is just raw pixels or vectors then the use will be legal. Mere letter shapes alone can't be copyrighted.

What isn't allowed is bundling actual font files into the game software to generate live text objects.

It mainly depends on the font license. Some fonts are free for personal use but require a commercial license if you want to use them in games or apps. Since you’re planning to use the font for UI buttons and convert it into vector graphics, it’s important to check the license terms carefully. Many designers also explore different font aesthetic styles for UI design to make the interface look more creative and visually appealing.

When choosing fonts for commercial use in games, it’s important to check the license carefully to avoid copyright issues and ensure you’re allowed to use them in paid projects. Picking the right typography can really enhance your game’s branding and UI experience.

For stylish text inspiration, you can also explore letras aesthetic   instagram to create eye-catching names or promotional posts.

Adobe Fonts can be used for commercial projects, including games, as long as the fonts are used according to Adobe’s license terms. You’re allowed to use them in published games and other commercial media, but you generally can’t redistribute the font files themselves or allow end users to extract them. As always, it’s best to review the specific font’s licensing details in Adobe Fonts to ensure compliance.

"You can use the font in your game for UI buttons as graphics if the license allows commercial use. Check the license, convert text to vector graphics or images, and then use them in your game."

Fonts can only be used in commercial games if their license allows it. Even if you convert text to vectors, the license still applies. Check the font’s license or use safe options like Google Fonts or Adobe Fonts.
