Lowercase Font Error: Letters changing to symbols

I recently activated a new font, Maiola, and now I'm coming across this problem I've not encountered before. The lowercase text towards the end of my text box is changing to arrow symbols, kind of like a font would do if you only have a trial license. I've attached an image to show what I mean. Maiola is activated, obviously, and I've tried reactivating the font, restarting the program... But it's still happening throughout the document. Any ideas?
