Missing Fonts

I am receiving PDF attachments but when I open them the document is mostly just dots and dashes. It appears as if the Windows fonts package is not reading them, either that or the fonts package in Adobe Reader DC has beenreduced in the last update. CAn anyone shed any light on this please?
