Now that font support has changed...

So then, now that support for type 1 fonts has disappeared, can I ask if anyone knows how to search for Pi fonts as a classification or category in Adobe Fonts? A major weakness of Adobe Fonts is that is doesn't search for enough proper font classifications (eg "Pi" or "Transitional" rather than "Funky" "Fun" etc which are not really typographical terms, in fairness.) If I don't know the name of a Pi font and can't find a suitable one by searching Pi, they how do I find them? If Adobe wants to leave people high and dry, it ought really to offer a lifeline to us. We do pay rather a lot each month for this seemingly diminishing service.

    Hi @martina49216598, yes, I agree that it isn't easy to search for pi characters without a glyph panel. Many of us also think it would be great to have more search options under classifications and tags on fonts.adobe.com. I've tried a few workarounds, including a search for dingbats and then looking under “Fonts like…” but I haven't found many Adobe fonts with pi characters to begin with. I did just find a Pictos font I hadn't seen before! What else besides Pi and Transitional do you think would be good additions?

      It looks like Type 1 fonts haven't been discontiued quite yet, so while i can still use them, I decided to try a workaround as follows. It's a bit laborious, but seems to work ok (at least for the moment). I have opened an InDesign doc and typed out each Pi font that I have (20 or so, in all their variants or weights) in full and outlined them. That way you've got a scalable version which can be copied and pasted. The laborious bit was the ungrouping and separating of all the characters, which were initially anchored in the text box, but it does work... at least for now!

      Ah, great idea to type them out and create outlines! But yes, that will take some time. Early last year, I removed all my Type 1 fonts so I wouldn't use them by mistake. I probably should have done what you are doing. I have them on a back-up drive… a rainy day project?
