Question

Proxima Nova not syncing to Adobe Illustrator

When I open Adobe Illustrator to start my day of work, Proxima Nova continually fails to sync. I have to restart my computer for it to take. It used to only happen sporadically, but now it happens EVERY SINGLE DAY and it's super frustrating.

I've tried turning Adobe Fonts off and back on again, but that doesn't fix it; only restarting fix it.

Please help!

There are two steps I usually try if a type family is failing to sync consistently. I'll try removing the type family and then adding it again. If that doesn't work I'll sign out of my Adobe account and sign back in again. Most of the time the first step (removing the type family and then adding it) works.

Do you have a great deal of fonts synced via Adobe Fonts? I can't tell for certain if having many hundreds or even thousands of fonts synced at a time will affect computer system performance or the sync stability of those fonts. Currently the Creative Cloud desktop app doesn't make it easy to scroll through the list of added fonts. That can make it a real chore to re-add and install fonts that were automatically removed for being inactive. In my own work I usually remove any fonts I'm not actively using; if I need them again I can add them very quickly at the Adobe Fonts website.

Yeah, I've done all of the above and I'm so tired of doing it all the time. It is only Proxima Nova. I don't know what the deal is with that typeface.

I only have about 30-40 fonts from Adobe Fonts synced.

I don't understand why some typefaces can glitch out and disappear while others remain stable. Inactive fonts can be automatically removed after so many days. But this shouldn't happen with a frequently used typeface. My guess is either there is some kind of bug with how the Proxima Nova fonts are hosted/served or maybe there is a lopsided amount of demand for that type family and the servers can't keep up. If bandwidth is the issue they should probably look at making a deal to add Proxima Vara, the variable version of Proxima Nova. It's just one font file to cover the entire family.

I've had technical issues with some fonts disappearing while certain applications were running simultaneously, but those glitches happened with fonts installed traditionally, not synced via Adobe Fonts. The issues persist with Windows 10, but not Windows 11.
