Question

ALL H.264 output FREEZES, no error messages.

The rendered file freezes 5–7 seconds out, receiving no error messages.  This happened suddenly after a Creative Cloud update—I upgraded to Catalina, reinstalled CC and all the apps, the issue persists, universally.

  • The AME encoding output preview looks normal.
  • This happens regardless of project/content—even encoding a baked pre-render. (AE/Preimere, different types of projects)
  • Experience this with both hardware and software encoding.
  • Have checked other players other than QuickTime.
  • Projects encode normally in other formats,

Please help!

I might have resolved the isssue—somehow a corrupted preference file? It seems to work right now after a complete uninstall (while not keeping original preferences). So far so good but still testing.

  • Clean uninstall of AME, making sure to delete all preferences.
  • Install last version that worked for me it was 15.0 (build 37)
  • Updating that version to current version.
  • Still works reimporting earlier presets!

Hi there,

Sorry for the trouble. We'll get it checked. Have you considered checking the export with any other AME version?

Also, do you have Adobe Premiere Pro? If  yes, then import the exported file in PR and check the playback.

Let us know the outcome.

Regards,

Shivangi

Thanks for your response! Yes, using Premiere (identical issue exporting directly out of here)—the playback is inaccurate when the rendered video imported in the timeline. What is strange is that it 'previews' correctly in AME as it renders.

Still experiencing this with 15.4.1 (Build 5).

Version 15.0 (Build 37) was the last version that works.

If anyone else is experiencing this, the issue seems unresolvable. Adobe, please help!

For a workaround, I recommend rendering HEVC (H.265) comps right out of AME. For delivery use Handbrake to go from ProRes to H.264. The queue isn't ideal for huge batch renders but it's workable, and the speed/quality is great.
