Media Encoder Fails more often than Renders

Unsure if this is a shared experience beyond me and some colleagues, but we've noticed that Media Encoder has been steadily failing more often than it succeeds in any job (whether Dynamic Link or not).

After Effects & Premeire can render such projects just fine, but the one advantage to Media Encoder is that you can continue working on projects while the render is happening. So it's unfortunate that, at this point, I can only reliably render in software and not in Media Encoder.

That is correct, I don't see any processes happening when I attempt to send from AE to AME.

Hello @JohnColombo17100380 I wanted to provide an update for you. Last week I updated my Macbook Pro to the new OS Sonoma 14.0, and since then my Adobe products seem to be making the correct connection. So far the projects I've worked on ARE CORRECTLY sending directly to Media Encoder from Adobe After Effects! I have not tested all of my various types of projects but I wanted to let you know that this OS change could possibly have corrected the issue for me.

Thanks @eckiAMETeam!

@Juniperf and @Mandee241926717z95,

It sounds like you both are seeing the same issue: After Effects comps sent to the AME don't appear in the AME queue, yes? The AE background render process (which is used by AME to render AE comps) might not be starting up correctly. If you try to drag the AE project directly into AME, are you able to select a composition from the dragged-in project? Do you see a process called "aerendercore" in your Activity Monitor?

A log from the background instance might be helpful as well. Inside AE, select Help > Enable Logging and restart AE. Then try to send your comp(s) to AME. After that, use Help > Reveal Log Files to show the logs folder and share the revealed LiveLink Log.txt file with us if it exists.

Thanks for any further info you can provide,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Thanks for reaching out! There does seem to be a disconnect between AE and AME. I followed the steps you outlined above and the attached is the report I got.

Hi @Mandee241926717z95,

Thank you! That log does show that an attempt was made to send a comp to AME, but it is not the LiveLink Log.txt that would have been created by the rendering instance of After Effects. Were you able to see if the "aerendercore" process started up when you sent the comp to AME? And did dragging an After Effects project into the AME queue work?

Thanks for any further information you can provide,

- John

Sorry to hear this. As I hear you have issues with AE send to AME. Is it with PPro too? To reproduce this here, please can you provide a sample project and the exact step to repro this. Especially if you are using an AE comp, what filter are you using? When it comes to Dynamic Link (DL), do we talk about Win or Mac and which version? So my only suggestion out of the blue is: Ensure no DL Manager is running (check Task Manager on Win, Activity Monitor on Mac). Launch AME first(!). If this is running then launch PPro or AE. That should ensure you have the correct DL Manager available and everything is setup for the DL workflow. Does this change something? Thanks.

I will need to set up a test project to send to you, as I'm not to share client files. info for now:

Using a Macbook Pro. I mainly use After Effects, did a quick test in PPro and that did seem to send through, it was just an audio file. I will give your recommendation to launch AME first then AE and see if that makes a difference.

I've been having the same issue and really need a resolve to help save my job workflow. I need my renders to go through media encoder for correct encoding and to open my AE for me to continue to work on projects. it's bad for my job to not be able to work on something consistently.
