Rendering my footage turns it to garbage?

Hi,

I was wondering why all my footage was noticeably lower in quality after using AE and exporting through AME... Now I just think its the process of rendering full stop.

To test it I imported a 4k 100mbps file from my GH4 camera and exported it exactly as it originally was (4k h.264 100mbps). The result was a video similar in quality to my GH4's 720hd out-of-camera footage.... this means that Media Encoder reduced my 4k video so much in quality that it looks like a 720hd 10mbps video - a video 10 times smaller in file size and EIGHT times smaller in definition... Is it something I am doing wrong? I tried exporting to VP9 also but no difference at all.

Would really appreciate some help! Thanks.

    Correct answer ChromaGuy

It's okay, it's resolved, I found a way to render out footage equally as good as the imported 4k original. Rgds.

I am attaching a sample screen shot of side by side 4k video. Before/after AME.

You can clearly see there is a difference in quality and the ONLY difference between left and right is the right has gone through AME.

Now yes I will admit that a well lit, low ISO video would not be as affected (I tried it) but somewhat higher ISO low light videos are ruined in AME.. so much so that the image on the right is similar to how my camera would throw out 720hd even though the original was 4k and the output was 4k same codec.

Please advise me on what to do. Thanks.

I'm using both AE and AME 2017. For a long period I was only shooting video but now I have to edit and export myself - The loss of quality is severe. As I said it's nothing I am doing, it's the encoder itself.

    Thanks.
