Should I convert H264 to ProRes?

Hi,

Newbie here.I'm shooting a promo on a Canon 6D (h264). I'm supposed to send it to a colourist to do some color grading.

My question is: Should I convert the footage to ProRes?

In my understanding, the h264 footage will not be improved if transcoded to ProRes, so why bother?

Is it just for color grading purpose?

Also, if I indeed need to convert the footage to ProRes, how would I go about that since I'm editing on a PC?

    lucyusr,

The color won't be any better, but the file will be easier to playback and manipulate. You cannot export ProRes on PC, so you need to find a Mac for your export.

    Thanks,
