Question

Where's HEVC in AME 2022.4

I'm super confused right now. I have seen the option to make a preset with h.265 AKA HEVC for years in Adobe Media Encoder. Recently I got two Macs, one is mine, the other one I got from the company I work for. I got both just a few days ago, days apart, so the version of AME is the same in both, 22.4. Both are missing HEVC. It is available in that new interface Premiere has, but AME doesn't even know it exists. I rendered a small video from Premiere to HEVC and it went fine. Then, I chose to render with AME. When I switched to AME, the video was waiting, but just as an audio preset.

And I can't be sure of this, but I went into Premiere's sequence settings, where you have all the different editing modes, there's only one that is 4K, the rest don't go above HD, and I think I remember seeing some 4k presets there, but I could be wrong.

But teh absence of HEVC is just bizarre, especially after reading this: https://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/using/whats-new/2022-1.html#hardware-encoding-macos

So what's the deal? I don't know if it makes a difference, but both are M1 Macs.

Hi Sebasvideo,

We're sorry to hear about this. Have you tried reinstalling Media Encoder & checked if it's showing the HEVC (H.265) Format under Export Settings?

Thanks,

Sumeet

Do you think that will really work, or are just giving the standard advice for pretty much every problem? Because this is not just my Mac, it's also in my Macbook Pro from work, and both are brand new machines, meaning macOS is a fresh installation on both, and they were installed within days of each other. So it seems to me that this is a bug that affects M1 Macs, or all systems in this particular version.
