Dear Adobe Team,
I hope this letter finds you well. As a dedicated user of Adobe's suite of creative tools for over 30 years, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the developments surrounding (or lack of) Adobe XD. While I understand the competitive landscape is ever-evolving, I firmly believe that discontinuing Adobe XD is a disservice to the design community and detrimental to Adobe's standing as an industry leader in creative software.
Adobe XD is not just another design tool; it is an integral part of a workflow that many designers have come to rely on. Its seamless integration (copy and paste for example) with other Adobe products like Photoshop and Illustrator provides a unified and efficient environment for creative professionals. This interconnectedness is a significant advantage that no other platform offers, and it is crucial for maintaining a cohesive creative process.
The decision to shift focus away from Adobe XD and letting competing as Figma thrive, might seem practical from a business standpoint, but it overlooks the unique needs and preferences of designers who rely on Adobe XD’s distinct features. The design community values the tool's powerful prototyping capabilities, robust design systems, and intuitive user interface. These elements make Adobe XD a preferred choice for many who seek a tool that understands the nuances of design rather than solely focusing on production and developer handoff.
Moreover, the growing emphasis on collaborative design, which Figma excels at, does not negate the need for a niche product that prioritizes the designer's experience and creativity. Adobe XD's potential lies in enhancing and expanding its current features to better support collaborative efforts while continuing to innovate in ways that resonate with designers. By refining and advancing Adobe XD, Adobe can cater to the unique demands of both designers and developers, offering a balanced tool that meets the needs of a diverse user base.
I urge Adobe to consider the long-term implications of abandoning yet another product (GoLive, Muse) and now Adobe XD. Instead, invest in its development by incorporating feedback from the design community, maybe enhance its collaborative features, but more importantly leveraging Adobe's unparalleled ecosystem. By doing so, Adobe can reaffirm its commitment to empowering designers and maintaining its position as a pioneer in creative software.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am confident that with continued support and development, Adobe XD can achieve its full potential and continue to be an indispensable tool for designers around the world.
Sincerely,
Daniel
