CC library not updating for existing XD files

We are builing a CC library from XD for our componnets (nested and with different states) and I am trying t oadd these into a "Sample Design Patterns" file for team members that uses this library. I am finding update we make in the CC library are not available or updating in this Sample Design Patterns file--I can only access them if I open a brand new file...

I would expect the library would only not update where components have been unlinked...but it seems I only get the library update up until I create the XD file--and then I have that version, no future updates.
