Free Account and XD Questions

How does this work now? Is this even available?

 

In the Past, I bought an XD paid account and I had clients create and install the free XD account so I could have them review my designs. I think if the files were of a certain size, they could hold their own files too. 

 

How does this work now? 

 

The reason why I'm asking this. I know XD is in maintenance mode but with these amazing GenAI features, I still feel XD has value and want to create stuff using it. Also, the designs I create I get paid for so the customers need a place to hold their designs for the future.

 

How are pros doing this now with XD or Creative Cloud? 

Does everyone now have to buy full blown CC to collaborate?

 

Also, I need designs to collaborate with customers, I don't necessarily want to do the coding. 

Does this make sense?

    @Carlisle1500 actually I have taken client files from XD to Figma. I had to copy the SVG code and it worked somewhat (the interactions don't get copied over). There is a plug-in that you can also get from Figma called Convertify. You get 10 free converts. 

    I do prefer and agree XD over Figma, but sometimes a client wants their files in Figma and some clients wants files in Figma. While some clients who work in XD who are transitioning into Figma wants their files ready to go. So, to answer your question Figma, yes, I have hands on experience.

    @creative explorer Let me reply to your comments. I re-roll my windows desktop quarterly for security reasons. Adobe has pushed XD into the "more apps" section so it's way at the bottom now. See screenshots below:

     

     

     

    About Figma, your comments are common but have you actually tried to import from Figma to XD? It's a layer individual import and that's so time consuming. Personally, I would prefer to just do in XD from the beginning because all the tools are Adobe Proper.  Honestly, I still can't understand why Adobe can't put their AI into XD and get back in the game. I just watched the MAX Keynotes from 2024 over the holidays and this GenAI stuff Adobe has is unmatched.

    @Carlisle1500 you cn no longer buy XD alone. You can get XD as part of the CC subscription. 

    I still teach Adobe XD to new groups of students every three months. After they obtain their Adobe CC subscriptions, I guide them in install Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat. When I ask if they can access XD, there’s a mix of responses: some can find it, while others report that it's either missing or in maintenance mode.


    I do tell them give it 24 hours before Xd shows up, and it will likely be shown like this eventually. If not try this link, https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/all/desktop/pdp/xd you may need to give it 24 hours to show up if it does show up as unavailable. Some students have said it's between 24 hours to 72 hours before it shows up.

     

    To answer your questions, eventually, Adobe XD will no longer be available (when, it's anybody's guess!?). It is always good to learn other applications such as Figma. There are many videos that can take an XD file to Figma on YouTube. It might be worthwhile to look into that. Speaking from experience, even though I still teach XD (only because many companies still use it), I have appreciated the simplicity of how Figma works too. So, that is also part of the curriculum. There are always more than one way to do wireframes, mockups and prototypes. 

    Can anyone get an Adobe account? Yes, you can still get the free adobe account and store files up to 2gigs I believe.
