How can I export a layer in Adobe XD that includes the artboard background color?

How can I export a layer in Adobe XD that includes the artboard background color? When I export as a JPG, the colors appear lighter in XD because the artboard has a color applied to it.

If you don't want to export all the layers on the artboard, you could open the Layers by clicking the icon in the lower left and hiding the visibility of the layers that you don't want to export. You can hide a layer by hovering over its layer name and clicking on the eyeball on the right. Then select the artboard and export it by going to File > Export > Selected...
