Is there a way to easily reorder items in a repeat grid?

Is there a way to easily reorder items in a repeat grid after I've customized each one? I feel like I should just be able to drag one grid item to a new spot and have everything rearrange automatically, as happens when I rearrange app icons on my iPhone.

Easy rearranging would be really useful because I often need to insert or remove an item from a grid after I've customized the elements. At the moment, I think I only have these three clunky ways to change order:

a) Keep all of the content in a series of .txt files and images, make the modifications there, and reapply these to the grid, 

b) Ungroup the grid, manually swap locations and lose my ability to re-apply the repeat grid, or

c) Do a lot of copying and pasting of content from one location to another.

Is there something I'm missing, or possibly a plugin that helps with this situation? Thanks!
