Merging shapes without pathfinder

Hello,

How can I merge two shapes like in the screenshot down here?

I don't want to use the pathfinder because I want to be able to resize the main shape.

Place your diamond behind the rounded rectangle. Create a triangle, or use the pen tool to draw a shape (turn off border) place it in front over the line from the rectangle which goes across the diamond. Select everything and make it a component. All aspects will remain independently editable.
