Can someone from the Adobe team give me the prerelease version of XD so I can open an XD file I need for my homework?

Might I ask where you obtained the XD file, can you provide a link to it (via drop box or some other means) - as well as the version of XD you are using. Are you on Mac or Windows?
As you surmised, the fact that you cannot open the file most likely means that someone who shared it with you used a newer version of the product. The prerelease program is currently by invitation only. I would recommend that the original author ensure they are using only the public beta for projects they need to share with others outside of the program. This is not a "bug", but would be interested to hear why you believe the software to be "buggy".
