Two artboards and a component with two states not able to revert back from one

I have two artboards. In the first artboard I have a component with two states. It's a menu icon and when clicked, the component state is switched to visible and there is a menu that slides in from the right.

When you click on a button inside the menu you are brought to the second artboard. From that artboard there is a close icon that will take you back to the previous artboard.

The problem is, that when you are brought back to the previous artboard, the previous state of the component is not respected and is at the first state and not the second.

Is there no way in prototype mode to specify the state of a component in the previous artboard to mainain state?
