When I "pin" a object to the artboard to make it lock to it position when scrolling it cause the object to disappear from the pge completely when in preview mode.

The fixed object must be within the visible "viewport" area at the top of the artboard (above the dashed line). If it's outside the vieport area, you won't be able to scroll down to see it because it remains fixed as you scroll.
