Question

Unable to see the specs of grouped objects in Spec View on XD Share Site

I'm in the process of handing off my prototype to developers. The issue we have encountered is when they are in the Spec View on the share site and are trying to get the spec details, they are unable to get any spec information from elements that are grouped. If items such as text, rectangles, lines, etc. are grouped in XD the spec information cannot be retrieved in the XD share site.

The image below shows an example of a card that was grouped while I was designing in XD. Even though the "mark for export" check box was checked, the information for items inside of the card (text size, color, etc, spacing, color chip size, padding, and so on) cannot be retrieved on the XD Share site.

Currently, I have to go back into the design, ungroup at least one item if there are many that are similar such as the image below, re-connect artboards if they were connected (i.e. a button), re-export, and let them know.

Is there any way Adobe can make developer handoff easier and more user-friendly?

Even if I have groups in groups or components, when viewing the specs on the shared link website I can still hover over text and it will highlight that item in a group so I can click it and get the specs. The behavior you're seeing is not as it should be. Could you share a screenshot of your expanded layer structure? Maybe I'll see some reason why this is happening to your file.

Also I don't know if you're heard the news, but with Adobe intending to buy Figma they've shelved XD and have stopped onboarding new customers to XD. So don't expect any new features or improvements for XD. I highly recommend migrating your workflow to Figma as soon as possible. It's an overall better and more capable app.

Hi Dan, Thanks for replying. Yes, I am aware that Adobe purchased Figma last year, but beyond that, I have not seen any updates about the transition, phasing out of XD, etc.

Below is a screenshot of the expanded layer structure. This particular group has a few nested groups within the main grouping. Perhaps that's what's causing the issue?

I think I will take your advice though, and start migrating my prototypes over to Figma.

The groups should not be an issue. I just recreated something with your same setup and it works fine, so I'm not sure why it's not working on your file.
