When trying to overtype an existing text after nothing happens

I am working on a realtively normal maybe a bit image heavy document on my computer that’s a windows 11 OS.
When I try to overwrite a text in a text box I created the text is briefly selected then cursor disappears and not text that I type would appear. I feel like the software freezes until I click on another tool for example shape tool. So it is beyond frustrating as simply cannot edit my document anymore.
