Why can't I export Sketch files from XD?

I do not understand why I have to export only as .xd and can't do something that Sketch itself can open. I can open FROM Sketch, but can't export TO Sketch? Is this entirely a business choice that makes no sense and is just Adobe being Adobe, or is there something I am missing?
