XD freezes after using for more than 10 minutes.

I'm on an M1 Mac OS version 11.6, XD version 45.0.62.

 

Features and workflow approaches aside, the performance of the app is atrocious.   Slow, sluggish, almost always a hiccup when performing any transform, movement- anything.   I cannot even work at a what I would consider a slow pace. 

 

Immediately after startup and opening a document with four artboards and zero rasters, zero prototype workflows, nothing extra- I'm using over 1GB of RAM.   Over 1GB of memory for just vectors and text on four artboards?  Unacceptable.  

 

I would be able to get some work done, albeit slowly, if the app did not freeze on any session exceeding 10 mintues.   It simply becomes unresponsive and has to be restarted. 

 

Auto saving is also not working.  I came back to work today to find last Friday's work completely lost- the app was frozen and restarting the app resulted in all of my work vanishing.  It's 2021- I haven't worried about losing work in almost a decade.   Huge step backwards.

 

It's clear something is wrong with the delivery and execution of the XD- is there a place where Adobe is transparent about the issues that XD is facing and what is being done to address them?

We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. Please share the following details:

 

  1.  Please collect and share system logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html
  2.  Please collect spin dump files by following the steps shared here:
  • Launch Activity Monitor
  • Select Adobe XD process (might show as “Not Responding”)
  • Click on the gear in the upper left of the Activity Monitor
  • Select “Spindump”
  • This will generate a text file.

3. Is this happening while working on a specific file or multiple files?

 

We're here to help, just need more details.

Hey Rishabh,  

I can certainly collect all of that information for you when I have another crash event, I'll try to replicate it sometime next week.

Not any one specific file, but I've had a crash/freeze while having both one or multiple files open.   Having the app open for a period of time seems to be the root cause.   I can replicate the error with one file, yes.  

 

One of my original questions- is there an ongoing issue tracker for XD?  Would like to know the scope of where this app is experiencing issues.

Sure, please relicate the issue and share the log with a local time-stamp of the crash, as that will help us isolate the cause of the crash. Also for known issue, please check this page.
