XD on Win10 not getting layers palette or symbols library

I just starting working through my first tutorial and see that I am getting neither the layers palette button nor the symbols library button at the bottom left of my screen (see attached). Is this a bug in the Windows version? Yes, Ive tried going to full screen but still no buttons. Thanks in advance.
