Zoom not working intermittently (using desktop Mac)

Zoom control not working with any of these methods:
Keyboard shortcuts (⌘+/⌘-) ...(though the 'View' menu does highlight as usual when the keys are pressed)

Through the menu (Veiw>Zoom in, Veiw>Zoom out, Veiw>Zoom 100%, Veiw>Zoom 200%)
Zoom tool (using Mouse click or alt+mouse click)

These methods DO work:

Through the menu (Veiw>Zoom to selection, Veiw>Zoom to fit all)
Zoom tool (using drag area or alt+drag area)
Mouse scroll wheel + alt key

Though strangley, all methods sometimes start to work randomly after a few hours work?
⌘ key seems to work fine at all times for any other shortcut operation (eg copy/paste)

XD version - 55.1.12.7 x64, creative cloud sync 5.17.9.1
Operating system - macOS 12.5.1
also another bug that may be related? selection bounding boxes sometimes disappear untill you select fit all to screen
