Trying to update Adobe Air and it will get an error and stop.  Tried to uninstall and that will get an error and stop.  Just says error occurred while uninstalling.  or error occurred while installing.. nothing else.

I'm sorry you're running into installation issues with AIR.  Microsoft has released a utility that can help resolve installation problems.  Would you mind giving this a try and let us know how it works for you?  When running the Fix it, go through the uninstall process and try to remove Adobe AIR from your system.  Once finished, download the latest version of AIR and install again.

Microsoft Install and Uninstall Fix It

If you still encounter problems, we'll need to review the AIR installer log to better diagnose the issue.  Please post back with the log contents.  You can find instructions for finding these logs here:

Hi Chris

I have the problem identified above sadly Microsoft no longer support the Fix It solution. The appropriate lines from my log are as follows:

[2016-07-25:21:53:23] Relaunching with elevation

[2016-07-25:21:53:23] Launching subprocess with commandline c:\users\dave\appdata\local\temp\air3eb5.tmp\adobe air installer.exe -ei

[2016-07-25:21:53:23] Commandline is: -stdio \\.\pipe\AIR_2880_0 -ei

[2016-07-25:21:53:23] Installed runtime (20.0.0.233) located at c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe AIR

[2016-07-25:21:53:26] Error occurred during msi install operation; beginning rollback: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="1603" errorID=0]

[2016-07-25:21:53:26] Rolling back install of c:\users\dave\appdata\local\temp\air3eb5.tmp\setup.msi

[2016-07-25:21:53:26] Rollback complete

[2016-07-25:21:53:26] Exiting due to error: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="1603" errorID=0]

[2016-07-25:21:53:26] Runtime Installer end with exit code 7

[2016-07-25:21:53:31] Runtime Installer end with exit code 7

The applications I use which use Adobe AIR still work OK but every time I use them I am offered the Update process which always fails so is somewhat annoying.

Hope you can help....

It looks like it's failing do to the MSI portion of the install:

[2016-07-25:21:53:26] Error occurred during msi install operation; beginning rollback: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="1603" errorID=0]

To gather more information, we'll need to generate the MSI logs.  Here's a document that explains how to enable logging and where to find the logs once they've been created:

How to enable Windows logging

Once you've enabled logging, try installing again.  Grab the newly created MSI logs and either post here or email me atccampbel@adobe.com

.

Alternatively, you could disable AIR from checking for updates (stopping the notices entirely.)  Instructions for this can be found here:  Find and download archived versions of Adobe AIR SDK
