Question

AIR and Adobe Support Adviser

I wanted to run Adobe Support Adviser to help diagnosing a problem with

the Creative Suite 5 installer/uninstaller. To my surprise, after successfully installing Suppoort Adviser,

when I ran it the task appeared in Windows Task Manager for a few seconds and then disappeared. Nothing was displayed.

Searching on the web, I came across the tactic of putting a file named "debug" in the folder META-INF/AIR which, it says, causes AIR to pop up debug windows. So I put that "debug" file there and, to my surprise, Adobe Support Adviser then ran ok. No debug windows popped up.

So, it seems I need this "debug" file in the META-INF/AIR folder, just to make AIR work for Adobe Support Adviser.

What does this mean?

Windows 7/64-bit

Hi Peter,

I've never seen this occur before.  I'm going to forward it along to see if anyone else has encountered it.  Is this the link where you downloaded the support adviser from?

http://www.adobe.com/support/loganalyzer/

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks. Yes. I downloaded it yesterday.

I think I have a funny situation with Adobe AIR on my win7/64-bit pc. This week I also installed a program named Smart Control Centre from NETGEAR (it talks to ethernet routers). It uses AIR and I found that when I ran it the task just disappeared after a few seconds without displaying anything. I tried the same trick of putting a file named "debug" in its META-INF/AIR folder, but sadly it didn't fix that problem. The Smart Control Centre software runs ok on my old win/xp PC.

My original problem, which I still have, was that the Creative Suite 5 installer/uninstaller just disappears after running for a few seconds (although it worked fine 18 months ago when I first installed CS5). I'm not even sure if CS5 installer uses AIR but, if it did, it might be one AIR problem producing all three symptoms.

The CS5 installer does not use AIR, so that sounds like a separate issue.  I asked around about the debug file but no one had ever seen that fix issues with apps not launching.  Would you be up for trying our AIR 3 rc build and seeing if either app would work without the debug file?

Thanks,

Chris
