Support of including 144x144 icon in the icon descriptor will be supported in the next release of AIR. Beta release is available at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/air3-3/

Adobe is being slow on this issue. (How long ago has the iPad3 come out?)

There are issues like this that are show-stoppers for app developers and Adobe should be very quick to issue an update. One of the arguments to work natively is that you have full access to the OS's capabilities as soon as they are available and you don't have to wait for a 3rd party to issue a patch. I like how I can "write once, publish everywhere" using AIR, but Adobe is not helping matters by being so slow on these kinds of issues.

Does anyone know if Adobe has offically spoken on this subject and when this issue will be resolved with a patch?

There is a way with Flash CS6 to publish for iPad Retina resolution. But, currently there isn't a way to include the 144x144 icon.

I'm still experiencing issue with the iPad retina.  Just published my app and the size is twice as big.  I did add an ANE file, but, didn't see an option for setting the SDK to iOS 5.1.

Are you now using Flash Pro CS6? If you are, you add the ANE in the ActionScript 3.0 settings, under Library, using the button next to the one that adds swcs. Then go into AIR 3.2 for iOS settings, General tab, and near the bottom should be a field for entering the location of the SDK. If you're using the current version of Xcode, the 5.1 SDK is here:

/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS5.1.sdk/

Don't forget to selectHigh from the Resolution drop down menu too.
