Question

AIR TitleWindow/Panel (popup) causing computer to freeze

I have been working on an AIR application for a few months and I have recently had a problem where a TitleWindow or Panel can cause the computer to freeze, needing a hard reset.

It is very inconsistent, but I can ususally get it to happen if I move the TitleWindow vigorously for a few seconds. Other times I just need to try and close the TitleWindow/Panel for it to freeze.

I recently updated to AIR 2.6 from 2.5 and to Flex 4.5 from 4.1. I haven't tried rolling back to earlier versions of AIR/Flex yet.

What I have tried is:

Fresh install of OS (still on XP)
Remove video card drivers and just use standard drivers.
Launch app as debug, launch app without debug
Export relase build.

After doing all of the above, I could still get it to freeze.

It may only happen if the popup is opened from another popup.

I don't want this to happen on a customers computer, so I need to find the problem.

Were there any changes in AIR 2.6 regarding how graphics are handled, or does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks,

Neil

Well I rolled back to Flex 4.1 and AIR 2.0.x and I can still make it freeze, which is really strange as I have been working on the app for months and it's only in the last week that I have noticed this behaviour.

My RAM or other component could be onthe way out.

This is odd, have you reproduced it on another machine?  If you'd like, feel free to send me (ccampbel@adobe.com) an example app and I can try and reproduce it here too.

Thanks,

Chris
