Any way to associate .air files with the Air runtime?

If I upload a PDF file to my Android Honycomb device I can open it and I am presented with a seleciton of apps of of which are associated with the .pdf file extension.

If I upload an AIR file to my Android Honycomb device when I try to open it I am told that "no app is associated with the .air file extension".

Is there any way to associate .air files with the Air runtime to facilitate the "ad-hoc" distribution of air apps?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that if you just post an apk file somewhere, users can directly download and install the app. That's plenty ad-hoc enough for me.
