API Event Listener [HELP]

So a 3rd party API I am using to retrieve some data that is working fine... they also have some event API's that send info to your app as it happens.

Is this possible to set up to listen to in an AIR app?  I can't seem to find any documentation for listening for events from an API.

Any guidance is hugely appreciated!
