Are Secure Sockets Suppose To Work Behind a Proxy??

I have an Adobe AIR 4.0 application that uses the secure socket class to connect to a server with a valid certificate. It works fine on normal networks without firewalls and proxys. I have users that report it does not connect when they are behind a proxy. Is there anyway to work around this currently? Is this a bug in the SecureSocket class?
