basic hardware functionality without ane
It's time we got access to basic hardware functionality and new api's without the need for ANEs
If a phone gets a new sensor, or a new library, we shouldn't have to buy an ANE or make one now that an old one we bought or made no longer works; especially when we've already paid to license AIR.
I'm not saying we should do away with ANEs I'm saying we shouldn't have to have them for basic functionality.
Example 1: I have to make my own ANE to allow pen support. That's ludicrous.
Example 2: using thumbprint and iris scan sensors still need an ANE ... when the underlying apis haven't cbanged too much In several years?
Example 3: augmented reality toolkits on ios and android have been available for a while now, but we have to wait until someone who knows how to use them makes an ane?
Etc...
I could go on, and you know this is stuff we should just have access to without needing to pay extra for an ANE or devote extra development time kn our end to create a custom solution reinventing the wheel every time.
Just because it can be done with an ANE doesn't mean it should have to be. In most cases it would run better if it wasn't.
