BBC iplayer will not download

Have finally after hours of trying different ways succeded in downloading Adobe Air, but still cannot download BBC iPlayer  Desktop (an Adobe AIR application)  and I get the following error message:-

"Sorry an error has occurred. The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author."

Can you help as BBC cannot?
