Camera roll vs encoding

I was wondering if someone could help me understand why saving a mc as a bitmap into a shared object takes so much longer than saving to the camera roll. Saving to the camera roll is almost instantaneous from the same MC. Encoding takes several seconds. Thanks!

Are you saving it as JPEG or PNG?

I tried both. Should JPEG be faster? I'll go back and try that again.

JPEG is likely to be a lot bigger file, and when you save to the camera roll it’s JPEG. Saving to a shared object is likely to be raw data, unless you JPEG encoded it.
