Can't install Adobe Air on Mac 10.6.4 - Other threads don't help on topic

I just purchased my MacBook Pro and trying to install Adobe Air to run Market Samurai. Each time I try to install it tells me there was an error and to ask my Administrator. Very frustrating. I called Adobe support and tried to pay $39 to get the on phone support but the entire process took 15 minutes before they even set up my account. I opted not to go that route.

I have Adobe CS2 on my machine and not sure if that is conflicting but I need to get this installed today.

Hi Rick,

Are you still running into this issue with AIR?  If so, could you check to see if your file system is case sensitive?  We can also work around this by installing from the command line, but I'd like to see if case sensitivity is enabled first.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

not sure how to tell if "case sensitive", but I did try the following:  saved something as "mail", then tried saving it as "Mail"- got message saying there was already such a file, did I want to replace.  So if that's what you were looking for, I guess it is case sensitive.

Running OS 10.6.8 currently.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rick

I'm also experiencing the administrator error when trying to install air, so frustrating, tried the Applescript and couldn't find a text file called adobe in applications. Some people seem to have actually seen progress in the installation before receiving the error message, I just find my mac stalling for about 30 seconds while the installation bar doesn't move and then receive the error. Any help would be fantastic.

Please start by running the attached "AIR Install Repair" AppleScript included at the bottom of my post.  You'll be prompted for you password, but no other UI will appear.  The script takes less than a second to execute.  Once you've run that, try installing AIR again and see what happens.

If it still fails, can you please post the contents of your AIR installer log.  You can get the log by following these steps:

1. Open "Console" from your Applications/Utilities folder

2. If the log list on the left side of the window is not visible, click the "Show Log List" icon

3. Select "system.log" from the log list

4. In the filter box at the top right of the window, type in "AIR"

5. You should now be seeing all AIR releated system messages, do a select all, then copy/paste into the forum post.

Thanks,

Chris

Message was edited by: chris.campbell  Updates to AppleScript:

Rename the bogus "/Applications/Adobe file" to "/Applications/Adobe-backup" (if it exists).

Added step to correct owner issue for folder ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR

Moved "do shell script" commands out of the "tell" block to fix permission issues some users were encountering.

Hello,

Sorry you're running into problems installing AIR.  Here are a few things to try (if you haven't already):

1. Install the AIR runtime directly at http://get.adobe.com/air

2. Once the runtime is installed, try installing Market Samurai

If either of these fail, which I assume they will, please post the AIR installer log.  On the Mac, you can open "Console" to view logging details.  Just select system.log under FILES and then filter on "air".  In the past, there was a version of Market Samurai out that required a beta version of AIR.  I'd like to make sure that this isn't what you're running into.

We did have a conflict with some CS5 installers were a couple of folders that AIR writes to had their permissions changed incorrectly.  Could you check the following directories and set them to be owned by your User Id and not root:

/User/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe

/User/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR

Thanks,

Chris
