Can't install the latest Adobe AIR OS X 10.6.8

Hi,

I've literally read through every discussion about issues with installing Adobe AIR and have tried all the suggestions and still nothing seems to work for me. I am running a iMac with OS X 10.6.8. The only version of Adobe AIR I can get to install is 1.5.3.

The message I'm getting is:

"An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."

Please, please let me know your suggesstions.

Thanks.

Hello MrBrooks,

This whole thing first occurred whenever I opened up Flash Professional CS6 yesterday to work on a project that I haven't worked on since CS5. After opening Flash CS6 it popped up a dialogue box indicating that there was a newer version of AdobeAIR.  So, I downloaded it (installer app version 3.9). When it tried updating me, the installer failed and gave me the same error message you're getting.

I'm on a Mac Pro Desktop running 10.6.8.  I found this article on Adobe's Help Forum.  It's worth reading the entire page, but the area that will pertain to you is a little over half way down the page in the section that says...

"During installation of Adobe AIR, you receive an error dialog with contents similar to "An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR.  Installation may not be allowed by your administrator.  Please contact your administrator."

I followed those instructions but it did not help. I am still getting the same error message.

One thing I AM confused about is that I'm running Adobe AIR version 1.0 (found under /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework/Versions/1.0.   This 1.0 folder, as you can see in the image below, contains both an Adobe AIR and an Adobe AIR Application Installer.app.   My Adobe AIR Application Installer.app is version 3.8.   My question is.... how come the Adobe AIR Unix Executable File is NOT showing as an "application" within my 1.0 folder?  Even when i select it by clicking once on it and then doing a "File", "Get Info", it is not showing as an application.  Which is my Adobe AIR application.... the Adobe AIR Executable file or the Adobe AIR Application Installer.app?  And why does the Adobe AIR Application Installer.app STAY on my computer and not delete the .dmg after install?   I'm soooooo very confused!  And Adobe is NO help whatsoever. I've already contacted them and reached someone from another country whom I couldn't understand and was leading me down the wrong path.

Will you please let me know if the instructions from the link I referenced helps you ???   I would be very interested to know.

Thanks!

I had the same problem and went to http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall/en-us and fix it of Microsoft fixed the problem for me. It now works. I think that fix-it uninstalled it and I just re-installed it from my mozilla firefox download little window on the top right by the home sign. Hope it solves your problem.
