Question

Cannot download installer for Adobe AIR

When I go to this site:  Adobe - Adobe AIR  there is a Download Now button.

When I hover over that button, the associated URL shows as:  www.adobe.com (I expected the URL to be some address that would automatically start downloading an installer for the newest version of Adobe Air).

When I click the Download Now button, the adobe.com web page is displayed.

I tried three browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE) ... same problem.

I tried two different computers (both running Windows 7 64-bit, with all Windows Updates installed except those just released on Nov 10, 2015) ... same problem.

I am able to download and install the newest version of Adobe Flash Player (which is from a different URL than the URL for Adobe AIR which I mentioned in my first sentence above), but I cannot download an installer for Adobe AIR.

I think a clue to this problem is the fact that a generic URL (www.adobe.com) is associated with the Adobe AIR Download Now button rather than a URL that is associated with downloading an installer for Adobe AIR..

Any help would be appreciated (can anyone reproduce this problem).

I have solved the problem.

I use a customized HOSTS file, and it had an entry for this address ...

assets.adobedtm.com

I removed that address from my HOSTS file, and the Download Now button (on the get adobe AIR page) worked as expected (i.e., it pointed to an address that resulted in the latest installer for Adobe AIR being downloaded).

When troubleshooting browser problems, I usually turn off all add-ons and disable my HOSTS file. This time, I forgot the HOSTS file!
