Communication between devices

Hi

What would be the suggested way to make 2 devices talking between each other?

My original idea was using a SocketServer, but that is not available.  What are the alternatives?

Are they in the same WiFi? I had good success with P2P connections (e.g. my Android remotecontrols my PC, both running an AIR app). If they are not in the same network you could go for Cirrus.

So there is no way to make devices to talk? I always need a computer???
