connecting to photoshop locally

Is there an easy way to connect a photoshop session from an AIR app running in the same desktop?  I've found a post for using the "Connecting to Photoshop with Flash, Flex, and AIR", but I was hoping some library that provided a simpler workflow assuming the two apps (photoshop and the AIR app) were on the same machine.  Is such a library available?
