Copy protection for APKs

I haven't been activating "Copy Protection" for my paid Google Play / Android Market apps since they themselves discourage it. The result is that one of my more popular apps is already being distributed illegally. As Flash developers, what options do we have going forward?

What is the latest advice on protecting paid apps? Ideally, I will side-step into in-app purchases and subscriptions.

I believe there is a native extension that lets you apply a license to your apks.
