Error when installing ICQ for Mac

Today I attempted to install the official ICQ messenger for Mac (which I downloaded here: http://download.icq.com/download/mac/en ) but the installation of the .air file failed and asked me to contact the software creator for a new installation file.

Recommended system requirements:

  • Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later (ok)
  • Flash 10 and above (ok)
  • Adobe Air 2.5 (ok)

The system.log shows the following error:

========================================================================

Mar 13 12:16:35 Daniels-MacBook-Air.local Adobe AIR Application Installer[1192]: Application Installer begin with version 3.6.0.6090 on Mac OS 10.8.2 x86

So it's quite obvious that the package signature failed. However, I was able to install this messenger on another machine successfully, so I'm wondering why it always fails for this MacBook.

Yes I already linked the download to the ICQ client in the first post of this thread.

Sorry about that.  I looked and completely missed it...  What OS X version is allowing the install to take place?  Could ICQ just have been installed a few months ago when it worked?

My guess is that the cert has expired and icq needs to update their installer.  I've confirmed that by changing my mac's system date to 12/20/12 and it installed without any problems.

Do you have a previous version of ICQ installed on this system?  If so, try moving this to the trash then installing again.  When you installed on the other machine, was this with the same binary downloaded on your Macbook?  Any chance the Macbook's file was corrupted?

First of all, thanks for your answer. No I've had no previous versions of ICQ installed on this system, it's a brand new MacBook.

It should be the same version since they apparently didn't update it since 2011. It actually still works on the other machine but I can't seem to get it working on this one.

I re-downloaded the installer like 5 times but it always returned the same error message, unfortunately. The package signature validation continues failing all the time.

Strange...  It probably won't make a difference, but could you try sneaker netting the installer copy from the working system to the one with the error?  You might also be able to simply copy the ICQ application package from that machine too if you simply want it installed.
