Question

How do I disable auto-update of AIR?

Add an empty file "updateDisabled" in the following directory:

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\
  • Window Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\
  • Mac OS X: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/

Alternatively, to disable auto update of AIR for all users, set the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\AIR\UpdateDisabled to 1.

This is just silly on behalf of Adobe, there should simply be a setting saying "Turn Automatic Updates Off".  There are no novice users who are going to understand how to prevent this happening and it's often disruptive to have a program access the Internet while you're busy.

It should be the user who requests updates, not Adobe.

This path info seems to be incorrect for Windows 7, as there is no "Application Data" folder at the spot indicated.

Instead I tried

C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR

And this did not work.

And then I tried

C:\Users\(userame)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR

And I am hoping this will work.

How can updates be disabled for all users on OS X without the per-user home folder file?

Is it working on a Windows 2008 R2 server ?

My CQ5 has to launch a workflow which use a script using AIR but the automatic update workflow hang the process ...

I've tried all the tricks (Key in the register) and updateDisabled in a "c:\users\administrator\AppData" but nothing run...

Any Idea ?

Thanks

The information about disabling auto update for all users is incomplete as it does not specify the type of value that is to be created. It should be a DWORD.

Hi Sunil,

Thanks for this information on stopping the auto update. This was the one I was searching for.
