Question

How to play videos on iOS devices?

Hi, I maintain an AIR app that uses video playback a lot. The videos must be played using the standard video object instead of the stagevideo one since I need to apply various transformations on it to merge with other display objects in animations. Until recently I was using the Adobe CS6 package and used to export my videos in FLV format and everything was just fine. Now I was trying the CC2015 package and noticed that media encoder does not support FLV anymore...

What can I do to keep my videos playing with the standard video object? H264 ones do not seem to be compatible with iOS for this purpose.

Also, how can I keep using alpha channels in my videos without the FLV?

Hi lucas ciclope,

Are you trying to play VOD or Live Streaming videos ?  Also, can you let us know the Audio codec and container being used in H264 video you are trying to play ?

We may be able to help you if you provide the above details.

Hi, Roshan, the video can be both packaged with the app or loaded from a standard HTTP server - no live streaming. Using FLV video, the playback works with no problem in all platforms. However if I try H.264 videos on MP4 container, the playback works well on flash player and AIR for Windows and Android, but the video are not played on actual iOS devices.

I remember of reading once in the past that iOS was not able to play h.264 if not on Apple's own player, then the need for the stagevideo that I just can't use in my case.
