New imac Lion osx10.7.1. Air not installed, ever. but when I try the installer downloaded from Adobe website I always get the error message: Sorry, an error has occurred while installing Adobe Air. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator.

Well it's a personal computer and I am the administrator.

I have done all the other things suggested like look in library and frameworks, etc but as I've never had Air there is of course, nothing there. All I have is the installer which doesn't work for me. I have tried many times to install with same result.

Here are the contents of the install log: (which I got by following these instructions )

Mac OS X
  1. Open the Console application from the Applications/Utilities folder.
  2. Select System.log from the log list on the left.
  3. In the String Matching filter field, type Adobe AIR.
  4. Select all, and then copy and paste into a text file.

Hello,

I'm sorry you're running into this problem, thank you for providing the log.  The first thing I'd recommend is to run Disk Utility's "Repair Disk" function.  For instructions on this please see this Apple document:

Testing and repairing disk permissions

While that document notes 10.4, it's also applicable up to and including 10.7.

Once done, try installing again.  If it continues to fail, find and delete (or rename) the following folder:

/Applications/Adobe/Flash Player/AddIns

From your log, the installer appears to be having issues creating a folder within the AddIns folder.  My hope is that it's a simple permissions problem (i.e. the AddIns folder is read only.)  Once done, try installing AIR again.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks Chris

I ran repair disk permissions...it repaired many things except one warning:

Warning: SUID file

“System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent”

has been modified and will not be repaired.

which was the last line before it said Permissions repair complete.

I tried to install Air again and got the same message : Sorry an error has

occurred, etc as before.

I do not see a folder

/Applications/Adobe/Flash Player/AddIns

In fact all that is in applications is flash installer (tiff attached) can

you see the tiff?

I also did verify permissions after doing permission repair. Got the same

note: Warning: SUID file

“System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent”

has been modified and will not be repaired.

I've attached a tiff of that window as well. I could not fit all of the

first part of permissions repair, but I hope you can get the idea.

What should I do next?

I am so grateful for your help.

Best Regards,

S

Hi Sherry,

Would you be willing to do a desktop sharing session so I could quickly take a look at your system?  Shoot me an email, ccampbel@adobe.com, if this sounds good.  I'll be around for the next hour or so if you'd like to deal with this right away.

Thanks,

Chris
