Installation problem CS3

Hey, I am trying to install CS3 on an I mac running 10.6.8. I get the message

"This software cannot be installed because the file system of the OS is not supported"

I have enabled the root user and tried after a safe start.

I have tried to install from the setup on the root level of the disk.

Same message each time.

I thought that I had read here or somewhere that CS3 would run on OS 10.6.8

Any one have any suggestions?
