iOS beta 2 - apps install half way...

Sorry if this was talked about already.  I've tried looking but couldn't find anything on this topic.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So I recently updated to the beta 2 iOS from apple.

I'm now having issues installing apps on my device.   What's happening is after the CS5.5 generates a .ipa file I drag it into iTunes.  After iTunes has synced and everything looks good I look on my device and for some reason the app is only half way installed. The Blue loading bar just doesnt wan't to go 100%

I using iTunes 10.5 beta 2 (I even tried going back to iTunes 10.5 beta 1). - Windows 7. I know they just released Wifi sync but thats only for Mac OS at the moment.

Is anyone else having issues?

Thanks

Timothy

Hey all,

After preparing new provisioning profiles and a p12 certificate, I was able to successfully rebuild and deploy the applications I've been working with.

I've been using a Mac development environment and I used Keychain Access to generate the p12 certificate. I believe my issue stemmed from selecting the entry for the Developer certificate and exporting that as my p12 certificate.

After some searching, I instead exported the private key associated with that certificate in order to generate a legitimate p12 certificate.

I've also regenerated provisioning profiles for deployment and distribution and have used both with success.

Sanika, any word on the investigation that you were doing with the files that I emailed over to you?

Hopefully this solution helps someone else who stumbles across this post.

Regards,

Gaston

Hi Gaston,

I am able to reproduce the issue with some of the applications that I received, but not all. I could install your application successfully. The bug is currently being investigated. I will post if there are any updates on the bug.

Thanks,

Sanika

I have the same bug. I can't run AIR application on iOS 5.

I tried iOS 5 beta 2, iOS 5 beta 3 and Windows x86 and Windows x64, AIR 2.7.

The worst thing - I can't downgrade iOS 5 back to iOS 4.3 (Apple's restrictions). So, now I need to buy one more iPad 2 for tests....

I have iOS 5 beta 2 on my iPad 2, and can install AIR 2.7 based apps ok. I am using Mac, and use Xcode to put the app onto the iPad, but you should be able to use the iPhone Configuration Utility on Windows to install the app:

http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/

If you're already getting that far, and it's just not launching, look for other things you're doing that could affect that.

Thanks for the suggestion Colin. I've tried using the iPhone Configuration Utility to install Air apps but I get the less than helpful dialog saying "An Unknown Error has occurred". Hopefully this works for others on the post.

Has anyone else had success using the Configuration Utility?

For what it's worth, I've submitted a bug to Adobe:

Hi,

Thanks for reporting the bug. Could you also attach the swf and application xml to the bug files? Also, which target have you created deug or app-store?

Thanks,

Sanika

OK so iOS 5 Beta 3 doesn't fix this issue..... again this blows.

July 12, 2011

To confirm the same, updated to iOS beta 3 and the install problem remains.

would this have anything to do with the iCloud functionality? Is it possible

that the app won't be verified as it is not present in Apple's iCloud

database?

Yeah so this blows..... the xml deleting the file didn't work.

anyone else?

June 30, 2011

hey logue.timothy,

I just tried the "xml delete" suggestion but that didn't work for me either.

Ok. then there must something else. You can install other apps now? I could, but it was the ipa from Flash I couldn't, so, for me it looked like it was something with the specific file, and not iTunes, but I can't tell for sure. I couldn't preview the game from Flash either, only after I deleted the file.

Have you tried to set up a new app, like a "hello world", just for testing?

Update: I tried my game with Air 2.7, and it did sync as normal, but then I went back to Air 2.6, because it gave better performance, and then I got this "half way"-installation problem. I tried rebooting etc, but it was the same. Then I deleted the xml-file and set it up again, then it worked, so I don't know if that did the track or what. iTunes is very slow though when I connect it to my phone. When I click on "my phone" and then "apps", it takes several seconds to respond.

Thanks gronli21

I'll try that xml trick.

About the iTunes apps slowest.

I read about this on the fourm of Apple Devloper site.

People have found the best way to install apps using the iTunes beta 2 on your iPhone or iPad is to open the Apps area (in iTunes) in library by double clicking "Apps" on the left side and then drag them directly onto the device. This will sync them automatically to the device.

That seems to work without any issues.

Hey Sanika,

I'm also using Air SDK 2.7 (along with iOS5 beta 2 and iTunes 10.5.0.43 on Windows 7).

Thanks

I'm using iOS beta 2 and iTunes 10.5.0.43 (64bit) on Windows, and it works fine on my iPhone 4.

However, I couldn't sync anything with iTunes 10.5.0.28

Hi,

Could you please tell me the AIR SDK version and device that you are installing on? Also, have you tried to install any native(non-AIR) application on your device?

We would appreciate if you could log a bug with all the details at http://bugbase.adobe.com.

Thanks,

Sanika

Hey Sanika,

I'm using Air SDK 2.7 (along with iOS5 beta 2 and iTunes 10.5b43 on a Mac). I've installed native applications from the appstore as well as a test application built in XCode on an iPad 1.

I'll also do as suggested and log a bug at the bugbase site.

Cheers.

I've run into the same problems after having updated devices to iOS 5 beta. I've been developing in Flex but the result is the same. Once the ipa is dragged into iTunes and synced with the device, the app icon on the device shows an incomplete installation progress.

Has anyone figured out what's going on with it?
