Hi,

I am looking for a good extension for Push Notifications on iOS, with a step by step guide to get it up and running. Commercial or Free.

Thanks!

Push Notifications on iOS are supported in the labs release available at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/air3-4/

When do you think AIR 3.4 will be released? I have about one month to build a project on iOS based on the push notification system, and I won't be able to release it if it's in beta phase.

In the meantime, has anyone found a nice working APE to work with instead of 3.4 native features ? Thanks all !

Milkman Games has an ANE called EasyPush -- http://www.milkmangames.com/blog/

I was able to get the ANE up and running in minutes. The Apple part of the process is the most complicated.  The basic setup is just three lines of code within Flash Professional CS6.

I used Urban Airship for the back-end push service.

It is not that simple.

We developed an ANE for push notifications registration, which would send you an event with the DeviceToken if the user allows push notifications.

The problem is that it only works with Flash builder 4.6 or if your building with ADT and can specify the platformsdk to point it to the location of ios5 SDK.

This is really frutsrating as most ANEs actually require that, and it is hard to keep switching machines to build the final ipa.

Could you not copy the iOS SDK to your Windows machine, then build from there using the command line?

Ok it is solved thanks to Colin Holgate from http://forums.adobe.com/message/4380821#4380821
Apparently, when after you add an ANE for an AIR for iOS project, you get a new option in the settings for Air for iOS where you can add the iOS SDK Location.

This is only for Mac I think.

I assume you are specifically looking for a tutorial on how to create an ANE that handles notifications, but... just in case you were looking for a more generic ANE tutorial, I found this article to be very useful: http://www.digitalprimates.net/author/nweber/2012/04/09/building-a-native-extension-part-2/

We @Adobe are working to get push notifications supported on iOS in AIR SDK itself. However, I cannot confirm you the release date as of now. Please subscribe to pre-release forums to remain updated with the upcoming features in the new SDK.

@Varun

What is the best pre-release forum to subscribe to?

Thanks.
