iOS Simulator painfully slow with AIR app [HELP]

I have a maxed out Mac Book Pro .. very powerful. Yet the iOS simulator runs my apps in what looks like about 2 FPS.  Is this a setting somewhere ?  My apps are GPU enabled if that matters.

My apps run buttery smooth on device.. but can not run in the simulator.
